Sunday 9th March: 1st Sunday of Lent

Writer: Timothy AstinTimothy Astin

Please come prepared to eat pancakes after the 10 am service tomorrow! Church Explorers will be serving pancakes at the back of church alongside our regular coffee. Of course, eating pancakes is traditional for Shrove Tuesday leading into the start of Lent. This is the first opportunity in church for our children to mark the beginning of Lent which they are keen to do. So you can ask them about why you would make pancakes at this time.

Lent study groups start this week (see below – especially the zoom link for joining on Monday evenings); also Lent Lunches which is a new initiative for this year. You might have noticed that the monthly Thursday service of Compline (which would normally be this week) has given way for the Thursday Study Group meeting. Next month the Compline service will complete the final Study Group meeting.

Finally, our service of Choral Evensong for the first quarter is next Sunday (16th).

PS. For most of today I was having refresher First Aid training as part of being an assistant scout leader for 1st Tadworth. But please don’t try me out in church tomorrow …

Annual Church Meeting (11th May), Electoral Roll Revision and Election of Churchwardens and a new Church Council (PCC)

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting

  • APCM takes place on Sunday May 11th at 11.15 am. This year there are the election of all Parochial Church Council (PCC) members for a new three-year term, and the election of two Churchwardens which takes place every year. In preparation for the APCM, this year there is a complete revision of the Electoral Roll (which happens every six years).

Electoral Roll Revision

  • The electoral roll is the list of people who can vote for PCC members at the APCM. It is also a sign of ‘membership’ of this church. This year a completely new roll is being made, so everyone on the old roll has to make a new application, together with people who have started coming to the church more recently. Forms and the return box are at the back of the church.

Church Elections

  • There are lists for nominations for Churchwardens and PCC members at the back of the church.
