Sunday 8th June: Pentecost

Updated: Jun 28

Normally I would write about the drama of the church gas supply being cut off by the works in The Avenue and being reconnected last Friday (well done the Parish Lunch team for managing to wash up after the Parish Lunch last Sunday). But the big news this last week was the announcement last Tuesday that Moira Astin will be the next Bishop of Crediton, one of two assistant bishops within the Diocese of Exeter. You can find more here, including an appealing short video. Moira will be ordained Bishop in St Paul’s Cathedral on Thursday July 3rd – please see the invitation below. She will be welcomed to Exeter Diocese on the following Sunday and start work in her new role then. Moira’s leaving service for the Reigate Archdeaconry will be the Visitation service on Wednesday 18th June at St Patrick’s Wallington (Calendar below). Coincidentally, Moira will preach at our Pentecost services tomorrow and is giving the talk at the June MU Meeting on the evening of Thursday 19th June.

Naturally Moira’s appointment has implications for my own ministry. I will follow Moira to Tiverton but only after an appropriate notice period for this church and parish. So there are discussions to come with our Standing Committee and PCC, and with Bishop Christopher, about when I will say goodbye to Tadworth.

With every blessing,

Tim

For our Prayers

We continue to pray for Paul, son-in-law of Arthur and Audrey and for Richard and Judith, Tom and his children.

We pray for Rupert, Ben, Jesse and Connor, Simon, James, Pat and Caroline who are preparing for their Confirmation next Sunday.

Let the Vicar know if you have a prayer request that you would like to be made to the church.

Music Sunday: 15th June at 10am

For Music Sunday (also Trinity Sunday), the Junior Choir is inviting any Church Explorers thinking about joining the choir in September to a taster session.

We have a selection of some of the Juniors' favourite music which we'll sing at the family communion service. Rehearsals for this will be on Friday 13th June (7pm - 8pm). During rehearsal, parents are welcome to sit in the body of the church to support their children or to drop them off. Please, do contact Tim Carey (organist@goodshepherdtadworth.org.uk) if you'd like more information about the Junior Choir and to let him know if you'll be coming to this event.

Of course, the invitation extends to any interested parents or other adults who might like to try the choir for a week.

The Confirmation Service: 15th June at 5pm

Bishop Rosemarie will be leading this service. Do come and support those who will be confirmed in their baptism vows. There will be a reception in the church hall afterwards.

Choral Evensong: Sunday 22nd June 6.30pm

Preces and Responses – Peter Nardone; Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in F – George Dyson; Anthem Come, my way, my truth, my life – William Harris.

Drinks will be served after the service.

Mother's Union Open Meeting: Thursday 19th June 7.30pm

Moira Astin will give a talk: Christianity comes to Britain (it is earlier than most people think). Everyone is welcome to come.

Service of Consecration of Moira Astin as the Bishop of Crediton: Thursday 3rd July 11am at St Paul's Cathedral

Everyone is welcome to come to the service. After the service there will be a reception at Lambeth Palace which Moira invites you to. She will need to give names in advance for you to get into Lambeth Palace, so please sign up on the sheet at the back of church if you wish to come to this reception.
