The Church Choir

Do you enjoy singing? If so why not join the choir!

A number of TV programs have recently talked enthusiastically about the benefits of singing in a choir. It is the ultimate in mindfulness, and a perfect way to de-stress after a long week. When you are singing beautiful church music life's challenges seem somehow a lot further away!

Here at The Church of the Good Shepherd we have an English Church Choir, a tradition which dates back many centuries. The Cathedrals, Colleges and Parish Church Choirs of our country have produced some of the greatest composers and musicians in the world. This tradition continues at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tadworth, and greatly enhances the quality of our worship.

However we are not at all stuffy. We're a friendly choir, open to all who enjoy singing a wide range of music. Under our dynamic new Director of Music, Timothy Carey, we are expanding our repertoire and developing all the time.

But, you're probably thinking, "am I good enough" or "do I have to do an audition in front of loads of people?!"

We’re not looking to recruit operatic soloists! Come for a taster session if you'd like to, and see if it might be something you would enjoy. Regular attendance at rehearsals can easily make up for a lack of music reading ability and no formal audition is needed. Suitability for membership is agreed with our approachable conductor, and the Choir is never "full". We are always pleased to hear of people interested in joining. There is a particular need for sopranos at present, so please consider if you might be able to serve in this way.

Adult Choir practice takes place weekly on Fridays, starting at 7.45pm and ending at 9pm. Our choir sings for the Sunday Eucharist and meets at 9:35 am for a brief warm up choir practice. The service usually ends at about 11:15 am. We also do very occasional evening services - about 4 times a year.

Come and enjoy a journey of musical adventure and develop life-long friendships in the process.

Singing in church choir can be hard work, but its very rewarding, and we are friendly bunch. So we'd love you to get in contact if you are interested!

THE JUNIOR CHOIR

As well as enjoying a good training in singing and general musicianship, the Junior Choristers gain a great deal of pleasure from being in a fine choir. The Junior Choir rehearses from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm on Fridays and we are always pleased to hear of children who are interested in joining the Junior Choir.

We are in the process of revitalising and relaunching our junior choir and are interested in any children would like to join. Joining a traditional church choir has lots of benefits. Singing regularly with a church choir is a wonderful way to learn how to read and appreciate music, which is a gift that will keep on giving throughout their lives. We also run an awards programme with the Royal School Of Church music.  And last but not least Junior Choristers receive "pocket money" for their attendance and a small fee for weddings. Find out more there is a leaflet at the back of church or please
